Okay, here’s what we’re going to do: We’re going to install a typical, normal-everyday style on our XenForo-powered forum — and we’re going to do it with style, baby. I’ll assume you know the absolute basics such as…err…using a web browser and — slightly more difficult — have already installed a working copy of XenForo on your server.
Preparation — what we’ll need
- An FTP client
- Your favourite zip archive extraction tool
- About 5-15 minutes of your free time
- And, of course, one operational instance of XenForo currently online
And…let’s begin
- First off, you’ll need to download one of the free XenForo styles we have available here, or one of the many superb free styles from the official XenForo Styles Forum.
- Once you’ve downloaded your desired your style, you’ll then need to extract the contents of the zip archive onto your computer. Upon doing so, you’ll need to find the main directory which houses all of the various graphics and CSS files &mdash the folder name is typically the same as the title of the style — and then upload this folder to your styles folder which is located within your main XenForo forum folder.
- Believe it or not, but the most difficult part is over — the rest is a breeze. If you’re anything like me you’ll probably require a coffee-break after all that incredibly difficult and strenuous work.
- When you’re ready to continue, return to your forum and log into the administrative area.
- Click on the enormous Styles button.

- Click on the Import a Style link.

- Now, using the Choose File tool, navigate to the folder whereby you extracted the contents of the zip archive, and look for your style’s XML file; typically, the file will be called style-StyleName.
- Leave Import as with the default settings unless the style author has specifically stated otherwise. You will only need to choose Overwrite style if you are attempting to a newer version of a style and would like to, well, overwrite the old one.
And congratulations! You’re done! Enjoy your brand spanking new style!
